Pro-Electron:
The European semiconductor standard Pro-Electro was set up in 1966 in Brussels, Belgium. In 1983 it was merged with the European Electronic Component Manufacturers Association (EECA) and since then operates as an agency of the EECA. The code is simple <2 Letters> <Serial Number> <Suffix>. The first two letters stands for the material of the device, the optional third letter is mean for industrial, Space or professional use. First letter: A=GE (Germanium) with a band gap of 0.6-1eV, B=Si (Silicium) with a band gap of 1.0-1.3eV, C=GaAs (Gallium Arsenide) with a band gap more than 1.3eV, R= Composite materials. Second letter: A=RF Diode, B=Varicap Diode, C=Transistor AF Small signal, D=Transistor, AF High Power, E=Tunnel Diode, F=Transistor HF small signal, K=Hall effect sensor, L=Transistor HF High Power, N=Optocoupler, P=Radiation Sensor, Q=Radiation device (Laser), R=Thyristor Device, S=Transistor High Power Switching (old code), T=Thyristor High Power Device, U=Transistor High Power Switching Device, Y=Rectifier Diode, Z=Zener Diode or Voltage Regulator. There are more standards, like the Japanese JIS "Japanese Industrial Standard" and the American JEDEC "Joint Electron Devices Engineering Council" standard. The suffix is used for Hfe definition A=low (Hfe between 100-260), B=medium (Hfe between 240-500) and C=High (Hfe between 450-900).

Because of the late standardization of the European semiconductor devices many different codes were used by a several manufactures, the code their used was most of the time Brand specified. Some examples are AEI/BTH (GT and S numbering), Mullard (OA, OC series, STC/Brimar (M, GD, JK and TK series), Ediswan ( EFT, XA, XB and XC series), GEC (EW, S and SX series), New Markert (V, NKT series) and there are many more to find.
